FLAP SEALS FOR SCHWEIZER 1-35 To provide for sufficient overlap between the mylar seal and the flap it is necessary to add a strip of mylar to the leading edge of the flap and to double the mylar strip on the trailing edge of the wing. The flap is approximately 13.5' in length. Six 13.5' lengths of 30mm convex mylar are required. A. Installation of convex mylar seal to front of flap. 1. Install 1/2" x 3/4" foam weatherstrip along the front of flap flush with the top edge. 2. Install 12mm double back adhesive tape on top of foam strip. 3. Install 12mm double back adhesive tape on top of front edge of flap. 4. Install 30mm mylar convex seal to front edge of flap using the rear edge of the adhesive tape as a guide. This will create an overhang at the front edge of the foam strip. 5. Using a wooden tongue depressor rub along the leading edge of the flap to create a slight downward bend of the mylar strip. This will improve the bond of the mylar with the adhesive on the foam strip. Suggest that one end of the tongue depressor be squared off to provide a tool for pressing the mylar to the adhesive. 6. With the fingers, roll down the leading edge of the mylar strip to assure clearance between the flap strip and the wing strip. Approx 1/4". 7. Install 19mm anti-peel tape using front edge of flap as a guide. B. Installation of mylar seal to trailing edge of wing. 1. Join two 13.5' lengths of 30mm mylar convex strip with double back adhesive tape using 12mm double back adhesive tape to create a convex strip 13.5' x 48mm. 2. Install 12mm double back adhesive tape to trailing edge of wing using the trailing edge in the flap area as a locating guide. 3. Install the 48mm mylar strip to the 12mm double back tape. Make certain that the overlap of the the two 30mm strips is in the direction that a smooth undersurface is presented to the underlying strip mounted to the flap. 4. Install 19mm anti-peel tape along leading edge of the mylar seal using the trailing edge of the wing as a guide. 5. You will notice now that there tends to be an interference between the mylar on the wing and the mylar on the flap at the root area of the wing when flaps are raised from full deployment. To correct this problem install a 5' strip of 25mm mylar to the trailing edge of the 48mm strip at the root area.
